Materials Characterization Lab

Overview of Equipment and Services

The Materials Characterization Laboratory (MCL) housed in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh maintains a large suite of instrumentation for the production and characterization of complex materials including nanoparticles, thin films, polymers, ceramics, and molecular electronics. The MCL also maintains stewardship over the Chevron Biological Instrumentation Cluster which provides access to instrumentation used in molecular biology and biological chemistry. The governing philosophy of the facility is for users to receive training and then conduct their own experiments. Assistance with experiments and interpretation of results is always available. Service samples (measurements conducted by MCL staff) and data analysis are offered on an as-needed basis.
