Health Sciences Mass Spectrometry Core

Overview of Equipment and Services

The mission of the Health Sciences Mass Spectrometry Core is to support the University of Pittsburgh research community by providing scientific expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for the analysis of small molecules, lipids, and proteins by mass spectrometry.

The Health Sciences Mass Spectrometry Core (MSC) offers liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) services to support metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics research. The core assists investigators throughout the entire project lifecycle – from experimental design and sample preparation to statistical analysis and data interpretation. They accommodate a wide range of project sizes, from single experiments to large, grant-funded collaborations. Common services include stable isotope tracing, untargeted and targeted profiling of metabolites, proteins, and lipids, label-free protein quantitation, TMT multiplexing, and post-translational modification (PTM) analysis.
